Question by Jane Marple: Should I tell my boss about his decoration ‘faux pas’?
My office was perfect the way it was. I have beautiful traditional oil paintings on my walls and dark oak furnitures. This weekend my boss went shopping and put into my office a modern picture frame with contemporary black frame….His thought was nice but it looks awful!

Buy a Dali poster and tape it to the wall in proximity to his selection. But remember he was the boss when you are out looking for a new job.

I would tell him all about it if you also feel comfortable criticizing his attire. If he would accept criticism of the latter, then you have no worries. If you feel he would be offended, then you might do well to keep your good decorating sense to yourself.

Your boss seems to have a different taste than yours !!
Please remember that you have to maintain cordial relationship with your boss. Remember the cartoon with monkeys depicting a slogan that boss is always right. You have to put up with the eccentricities of your boss if you desire to continue in the office!!

No, unless it was a gift to take it home decor.

  5. GEEGEE says:

You don’t, unless he asks your opinion. Unsolicitied advise is rarely appreciated, especially if it’s negative.

  6. Mel says:

This depends on your relationship with the boss. Does he accept constructive criticicm well on other topics? Or would he be likely to get ticked off?

If you think he can take it, either make a joke about how you’ll have to redecorate the entire office to match the picture, or gently suggest that the picture be re-framed in a traditional frame that would better match the rest of the office.

If he had a short fuse, leave it alone – if you like the job and the boss in all other respects, is it really that important if he has tacky taste in art?
